HARD DRIVING OLD TIME DANCE MUSIC
Highly regarded for their driving sound and strong singing, The Alum Ridge Boys & Ashlee are a favorite at dances and festivals in the Blue Ridge. Based in Floyd County, Virginia, the string band regularly performs locally for Floyd's famous Friday Night Jamboree and just down the mountain at Franklin County's Twin Creeks Distillery. Helping to carry on the dance music traditions of Southwest Virginia, the members of the Alum Ridge Boys are active in sustaining a variety of cultural traditions unique to the region including music, dance, luthiery, farming, and distilling. Fiddler Andrew Small is the 2021-22 Artist In Residence for Virginia's Crooked Road, and both Small and guitarist Ashlee Watkins have completed Virginia Folklife Apprenticeships in traditional music. Banjo player Chris Prillaman was the fiddler for Franklin County's Dry Hill Draggers for over two decades and has been honored as a Virginia Master Folk Artist in Moonshining. Bassist Dillon Clements works on his Franklin County farm when not making music. All members are descended from musical families including some fiddle and banjo playing great-grandparents in Virginia and North Carolina. The Alum Ridge Boys & Ashlee have won numerous awards at fiddlers' conventions around the region including first place old time band at the 85th Annual Old Fiddlers' Convention in Galax, VA.
